Given information
--------------------------------------------------------------------
4/7 mountain bikes sold
24 mountain bikes left

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Fraction of mountain bikes unsold
--------------------------------------------------------------------
1 - 4/7 = 3/7

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Equate the fraction and find 1 whole
--------------------------------------------------------------------
3/7 of the bikes = 24

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Divide by 3/7 on both sides
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Total bikes = 24 ÷ 3/7
Total bikes = 56

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Answer: There were 56 bikes originally
