Multiply 3*5 then you add 5 to 15 which is 20. Then Subtract 20 - 4.2= 15.8

Answer:

After substituting the first step is to open the bracket of middle term

Explanation:

Given the equation

x+3x-4.2

when x=5, we have to determine the first step after substitution.

5+3(5)-4.2

The first step is to open the bracket of middle term

5+15-4.2

Then next step is to adding first two terms by BODMAS rule

20-4.2

Now subtraction, we get 15.8
