start by simplifying the numerator and denominator:

Numerator: multiply both terms by y to get ...y + x
Denominator: multiply both terms by y² to get....y² - x²

So we now have:

(y+x)/( y^(2) - x^(2) ) factor the denominator

(y+x)/((y+x)(y-x)) Reduce

(1)/(y-x)
