In this essay it is argued that going to colonizer's schools is not beneficial to the boys because they do not learn how to do the things that are important for Iroquois to do.

The chief argues that the boys come back well educated in the sciences and other areas of knowledge that are important to the colonists, but that they cannot run, hunt, live in the elements, build homes or other important structures, etceteras. In other words, they may be "book smart" but they lack all the skills necessary for survival.
