Multiply 5 gallons by 1/4 full to find number of remaining gallons.

x= # gallons remaining

x= 5 * 1/4
x= (5*1)/4
x= 5/4
x= 1 1/4 gallons remaining

CHECK:
multiply 1 1/4 remaining gallons by number of quarters in a whole or in 100 (there are four 1/4s)
= 1 1/4 * 4
= 5/4 * 4
= (5*4)/4
= 20/4
= 5

ANSWER: 1 1/4 gallons remaining

Hope this helps! :)
