Tim and Tom are trying to earn money to buy a new game system over a 3-month period. Tim saved $45.70 each month. If they need a total of $214.02 to buy the game system, how much does Tom need to earn each of the 3 months in order to buy the game system?

Let x be the amount earned by Tom in each month,

∵ Tim saved $45.70 each month,

So, there combined collection in each month = x + 45.70,

Total amount they collect in 3 months = 3 × ( x + 45.70 )

According to the question,

3 × ( x + 45.70 ) = 214.02


x+45.7=(214.02)/(3)


x+45.7=71.34


\implies x = 71.34 - 45.7 = 25.64

Hence, Tom needs to earn $ 25.64 each of the 3 months in order to buy the game system.

Because if Tim earns 45.70 each month multiply that by 3 which will give you 137.10 take 214.02 subtract 137.10 and you get 76.92 which is the total amount of money that Tom needs to give divide it by 3 and you get 25.64 which gives you the amount he needs to make in a 3 month period
