I think the answer is D because the question used "before" when asking for the equation.

Answer:

Cost of watermelon before discount = $ 2.40

Rate of Discount = 30 %

D= Discounted price of watermelon

= 2.40 - 2.40 ×
(30)/(100)

= 2.40× [ 1 -
(3)/(10)]

= 2.40 ×
(7)/(10)

= 2.40 × 0.7

So, option A i.e 0.7 × $ 2.40 is discounted price of watermelon.
