Answer: Positive

=======================================================

Reason:

The discriminant is

d = b^2-4ac

which is the stuff under the square root in the quadratic formula.

We have these three cases

  • d > 0 means we get two different real number solutions
  • d = 0 means we get exactly one real number solution
  • d < 0 means there are two nonreal complex solutions

The graph shows we have 2 solutions. Each solution is an x intercept, aka "root". We go for the case in which d > 0. Therefore, the discriminant is positive.
