From here you can split up the hexagon into 2 rectangles. Draw a line from D perpendicular to line AB.

Area = length x width

We know the upper rectangle's dimensions are 2 by 3 because AB = CD + EF. Put in the numbers, 6 = CD + 3. Solve for CD which is 3. Multiply 2 by 3 to get the area of the upper rectangle. Answer: 6

The lower rectangle's dimensions are 8 by 3 (given). Multiply 8 by 3 to get the area of the lower rectangle. Answer 24.

Once you've calculated both areas, add them up to find the area of the entire figure.
