x+y=36
x−y=24

Adding the two equations together gives

2x=60

∴x=30

Substituting this back into either of the equations gives y=6

difference means subtract.

x + y = 36
x - y = 24 Just to make it complete, I finish the problem. Add the two equations.

2x = 60 Divide by 2
x = 60/2
x = 30


x + y = 36 Substitute for x
30 + y = 36 Subtract 30
y = 36 - 30
y = 6

So the solution point is (30,6)
