If the portion of DNA to be transcribed has 66 bases, how many amino acids will the resulting protein have? Explain your reply.

The answer is 22. This is derived by dividing 66 by 3. 3 is the number of nucleotides that make a codon which is later translated into an amino acid. During translation, the mRNA is read in codon (3 nucleotide sequences) sequences by the anticodons of tRNAs. The anticodon that matches the codon then determines which amino acid is added to the polypeptide chain.
