Brooklyn has a combination of dimes and nickels in her wallet. she has three time as many nickels as she does dimes,and the total value of the coins is $4.00.how many does she have of each coin

Let, the number of dimes be x.

Given, Brooklyn has three times as many nickels as dimes.

So number of nickels =
3x

We know that 1 nickel = $0.05

So, 3x nickels = $
(0.05)(3x) = $
(0.15x)

And 1 dime = $0.1

So, x dimes = $
(0.1)(x) = $
(0.1x)

Given, total value of the coins = $4.

So, we can write the equation,


(0.15x)+(0.1x) = 4


0.15x+0.1x = 4


0.25x = 4

To find x, we have to move 0.25 to the other side by dividing it to both sides. We will get,


(0.25x)/(0.25) =(4)/(0.25)


x =(4)/(0.25)


x = 16

So, number of dimes = 16.

Number of nickels =
3x =
3(16) = 48

So we have got the required answer.

Number of dimes = 16 and number of nickels = 48.
