Be specific.

Offer encouragment.

Focus on the positive not the negative.

People won´t always accept criticism, you have to focus on whats good and help them change what is not, by being specific you can pin point what´s wrong or need to work on, also if you offer encouragement you can make the other feel better and get the willing they need to start working towards a change.
