Hello!

This question simply asks:

20% of what number would equal 35?

To calculate that, use the following formula:

(35 × 100) ÷ 20 = 175

So, we know that Veronica had $175 to spend in total. Then she gave $35 to Bill. Sutract:

175 - 35 = 140

Now, the question says she used 50% of the remaining money to buy books.

Multiply the remaining amount of money by the percentage she spent on books.

140 × 50% = 70

Veronica spent $70 on books.

140 - 70 = 70

Veronica has $70 left.

The first step to solve this problem is to compute for the total money of Veronica. You can do this by:

$35 (given to bill) / 20% (percentage of her money given to Bill) = $175

Since you already know the total money of Veronica, you can now compute how much she spent to buy books which are 50% of her remaining money after giving Bill $35.

($175 - $35) x 50% = $70

Therefore, she spent $70 for her books.

$175 – $35 – $70 = $70

Therefore, she has $70 left.
