Bailey and Elena compete in a swim race. Their times are shown below. Round each time to the nearest whole second. Then estimate how many seconds Bailey won the race by

Bailey: 35.78 seconds
Elena: 39.51 seconds

The whole second is the first number to the left of the decimal (_.)

So, 35.78 = 36 because 7>5.

39.51 = 40 because 5 = 5.

40 - 36 = 4.

Bailey won the race by about 4 seconds.

Answer:

The estimate time by which Bailey wins the race by Elena is:

4 seconds.

Explanation:

The times of completion of a swim race by Bailey and Elena are given as:

Bailey: 35.78 seconds

Elena: 39.51 seconds

Clearly from the time we could observe that the time taken by Bailey is less as compared to Elena.Hence, Bailey wins the race.

Hence, the time taken by them to the nearest second is:

Bailey: 36 seconds.

Elena: 40 seconds.

Hence, the estimate time by which Bailey wins by Elena is:

40-36=4 seconds.

Hence, the estimate time is:

4 seconds.
