Hello!

To convert
(3)/(4) to a fraction with a denominator of 8, multiply the fraction by
(2)/(2);
(2)/(2) =1, so the fraction is equivalent, but would have an increased numerator and denominator.

(3)/(4) * (2)/(2) = (6)/(8)

Your new fraction is
(6)/(8). Add it to
(5)/(8):

(6)/(8) + (5)/(8) = (11)/(8)

Now we must convert it to a mixed number. To do that, divide 11 by 8.

Answer:

1 (3)/(8)

3/4= x/8
3 is to 4 as x is to 8
cross multiply
(3*8)= (4*x)
24= 4x
divide both sides by 4
6= x

3/4= 6/8

Or 4 goes into 8 two times. Multiply 3 by two, which equals 6

Add 6/8 to 5/8:
6/8 + 5/8
=11/8
=1 3/8 mixed number

ANSWER: 6/8 and 1 3/8

Hope this helps! :)
