First combine like terms

2x + 3x = 5x

5x + 50 = 180

since there is an equal sign, what you do to the one side, you do to the other

Isolate the x

Subtract 50 from both sides

5x + 50 = 180
5x + 50 (-50) = 180 (-50)
5x = 180 - 50
5x = 130

Divide 5 from both sides to isolate x

5x/5 = 130/5
x = 130/5
x = 26

x = 26 is your answer

hope this helps
