A woman arrives at the women’s health clinic complaining of frequency and burning pain when voiding. The diagnosis is a urinary tract infection. What is important for the nurse to encourage the client to do?

The nurse must encourage the client to drink at least eight (8-oz) glasses of fluid daily along with the given medication. In addition, the nurse should emphasize to the woman to wipe the perineal area from front to back to avoid additional infection and to promote proper hygiene. If the woman is married, she should advice the woman to encourage his husband to use condom before sexual intercourse to prevent the spread of infection.

The nurse would encourage the patient by giving her/ him advise to change healthier habits, consider herbal medications, always take vitamins C for a healthier Urinary Tract and drink a lot of water. Also, advice the patient to practice more personal hygiene most especially when it comes to personal intercourse.
