since it has a smaller denominator, the numerators have the same look as the smaller numerator

Lori ran further because if you divide 3 by 8 (3/8) you would get 0.325 and if you divide 3 by 6 (3/6) you would get 0.5 and 0.5 is greater than 0.325 meaning Lori ran faster than Carlos.
