Read this excerpt from Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address and then answer the question that follows: (1) Four score and seven years ago, our fathers brought forth upon this continent a new nation: conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal. Now we are engaged in a great civil war ... testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated ... can long endure. We are met on a great battlefield of that war. (2) We have come to dedicate a portion of that field as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that this nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this. But, in a larger sense, we cannot dedicate ... we cannot consecrate ... we cannot hallow this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember, what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. Pay close attention to the word choice in this speech. What can you tell about the speaker's point of view? (5 points)

d. He wants to show respect to the soldiers. In this excerpt from Abraham Lincoln’s “Gettysburg Address,” it can be determined that Abraham Lincoln wants to show respect to the soldiers. He wants to show respect for them by keeping their memory alive. He mentions that, even though a portion of the battlefield is going to be dedicated to those who died so the United States might live, there needs to be more done. He notes that those who suffered and/or died on that battlefield are the real ones who have consecrated the land, and he implores that the memory of this consecration never be forgotten. Thus, again, in this excerpt it can be determined that Abraham Lincoln wants to show respect to the soldiers how fought at Gettysburg.
