According to Freud, when early experiences result in unresolved conflicts and frustrated urges, these emotionally charged memories are repressed but can continue to influence a person's thoughts and behavior. Freud used the term repression to describe the way emotionally painful events could be blocked out of conscious awareness so that their painful effects would not have to be experienced.

The word that comes in the blank is "repressed".

Freud divided mind into three levels that are;
conscious, pre-conscious and unconscious , and according to him when early encounters result in uncertain clashes and baffled desires, these sincerely charged recollections are repressed however can keep on influencing a man's considerations and conduct.
