an electrician charges $80 an hour. his apprentice earns $42 an hour. the apprentice works on a job 3 hours less than the plumber. together they earn $850. how many hours did they each work?

The electrician works for 8 hours, while his apprentice works for 5 hours. 8(80) = 640. 5(42) = 210. 640 + 210 = 850. This took a bit of trial and error, hope it helps! :)
