In a Mathematics test, there are 10 multiple choice questions 2 marks will be awarded for each correct answer, while 1 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer. If Peter answers all the questions in the test and his test result is 8 marks, how many correct answers has he got in the test? (Algebraic Equations in One unknown) ​

7 marks out of ten

or

14 marks out of 20

Explanation:

If they are 10 questions

Peter gets 8 correct

2 marks will be given for each right answer

8 right answers*2marks

= 16 marks

1 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer

He missed 2 questions

16marks-2marks

Peter got 14 marks but they are only 10 questions

So fully he needs to divide the marks by 2 to get it under 10

14/2

Peter would get either

14 marks out of 20

or

7 marks out of ten
