Answer:

5,274 in.2

Explanation:

Find the area of both the shaded and not shaded regions.

Shaded: 8 ft x 12 in = 96 5 ft x 12 in = 60

Then: 96 in x 60 in = 5760

Not Shaded: 27 in x (36 / 2) 18 in = 486

Then Subtract The Not Shaded Region From The Shaded Region:

5,760 - 486 = 5,274

{5274}in^(2)

Explanation:
To find this answer you will have to follow these steps:

1) Convert all numbers to the same unotnof measurement (inches). So you would convert 8ft and 5ft into inches. (96in and 60in)

2) Now you have to find the area of the total figure (square). To find this you simply multiply length × width. (96in × 60in = 5760) Remember this for later.

3) Now you have to find the area of the triangle inside the shape. For this you multiply base × height then divide by 2. (36in × 27in = 927 then ÷ 2 to get 486.) 486 is the area of the triangle.

4) Finally to find the area of the shaded part of the shape you need to subtract the triangles area from the total area. (5760 - 486 = 5274 in)
