In relation to arguments a claim is an idea, opinion, or assertion presented in an argument.

The purpose of an argument, either in a paper or a speech, is to convince or persuade the recipient. A claim is considered one of the main parts of an argument. A claim is the part in which a person states his/her main point. A claim provides your true opinion pertaining to a topic based on your knowledge and your research.
