The answer to this question is D. because in this phrase it shows that he have already broken a pencil so B. And C. Is out. A. Is incorrect because his other goal is to finish the exam.

Answer—> D) I believe this is your answer.
I think this is your answer because, the sentence already states that he already broke a pencil so thus, he wants to avoid breaking one more pencil.
