Michael's mother bought in total

3 * (1)/(2) = (3)/(1) * (1)/(2) = (3)/(2) = 1 (1)/(2)
So she bought a total amount of 1.5 gallons of ice cream. This cost her $17.10

To determine the price of one gallon of ice, we only have to divide $17.10 by 1.5

17.10 / 1.5 = 11.4

Therefore the cost of 1 gallon of ice is $11.40
