Answer:

MgO

Step-by-step explanation:

Mass of Mg = 60.3 g

Molar mass of Mg = 24.305 g/mol

Moles of Mg = 60.3 g/ 24.305 g/mol = 2.48 mol

Mass of O = 39.7g

Molar mass of O = 16 g/mol

Moles of O = 39.7g/ 16 g/mol = 2.48 mol

So the molar ration of Mg:O is 1:1

Therefore the empirical formula is MgO
