This organization was started in 1951 by the wife of one of the founders of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Louis Wilson. She recognized the importance of helping not just the alcoholics themselves, but their family and friends, since many of the illnesses that the relatives had were associated with the addiction of the alcoholic. The organization offers a 12-step program for recovery of the close ones of the alcoholic.
