Monet labels Impressionism to his painting because of its sketchy quality and unconcealed brushstrokes. Impressionist Monet didn't bother to disguise his brushstrokes or blend his pigment to create smooth tonal progression. Impressionism often relates to sketches, abbreviation, speed and spontaneity.
In contrast to Monet, Gauguin rejected both Realism and Impressionism. He has his own daring experiment to transform traditional painting and Impressionism into abstract, expressive patterns of line, shape, and pure color.
