What happens if the correlation coefficient equals 0?

There is a strong negative linear relationship between x and y.

There is not a linear relationship between x and y.

If the correlation coefficient is 0, then there isn't a linear relationship between x and y. Another possible relationship (such as an exponential or quadratic) one could be possible, but it depends on the scatter plot given.
