Th triangle inequality rule states that the length of a side of a triangle must be less than the sum of the lengths of the other two sides. Therefore, with sides
A, B, and C:
Where A = 6 in
Where B = 8 in
C = ?

C < A + B
C < 6 + 8
C < 14

The answer must be expressed as a whole number, and 13 is the largest whole number less than 14. Therefore, the maximum length of the third side is 13 inches.
