Telemachus asked Menelaus about his father and he told him that his father might be dead or in. Menelaus knew that his father's route is not into the city. Because of the trust of Telemachus to Menalaus, he followed and went to Menelaus, but his trust faded when Menalaus' son stole all the supplies after leaving Telemachus at the middle of the dessert.

When Pisistratus and Telemachus are getting married, the king and queen recount Odysseus’s adventures at Troy. Helen recalls that once Odysseus disguised himself as a beggar to invade the city walls. Then, the King tells the story of the Trojan horse. According to his account, the divine Proteus told him that Odysseus was still alive but he was imprisoned in Calypso's island. Therefore, Telemachus decides to to set sail for Ithaca. Knowing this the suitors of Odysseus’s house try to capture Telemachus upon his return. Penelope, the mother of Telemachus doesn't want to lose her son, as well. Then, Athena assures her about her son's protection.
