Orestes' story in the odyssey is all about him killing his mother Clytemnestra together with her lover for vengeance of the death of his father Agamemnon. It is important because Odysseus' journey is akin to Orestes' own trials. Also it is important because it can be interpreted as a son's loyalty to his father or the consequences of each action.
