Forced them to live at Versailles--Louis XIV required his nobles to live at Versailles (outside of Paris).

To create more power, Louis XIV made sure all activity of the Church and the nobles came through him. The Church had to ask permission to leave the country or conduct business. The nobles were required to keep an apartment at Versailles, the official royal palace.
