The crust in the ocean is a lot thinner and cools faster because of the water and how it deteriorates sunlight the deeper you go.

Oceanic crust solidifies faster than the continental crust because the ocean in much cooler, and constantly moving. The coolness and the movement of the ocean make the oceanic crust solidify faster than that of an unmoving continental crust.
