The highest point in Africa is Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, with an altitude of 5895 meters above sea level. The lowest point on the continent is Lake Assal in Djibouti. It is 155 meters below sea level. FInd the difference between the altitudes.

Answer: The difference is 6,050 feet.

To find the difference between the two values, you just have to subtract them.

Our problem is: 5895 - (-155)

To do this, we change it to 5895 + 155 = 6050
We change it because we are subtract a negative number and subtracting a negative number is the same thing as adding it.

The difference between the altitudes will be the distance from the highest point of kilimanjaroto the lowest point on lake assai.

This distance will be the distance from the highest point of kilimanjaro to the sea level (5895m) plus the distance from the sea level to the lowest point on lake assai (155m, this distances wont be negative because it is taken as a distance from a point of reference not as a value below 0). Like this:


5895m+155m=6050m
