You are required to complete the following: 1) Respond to the discussion topic. 2) Respond to your two of your classmates’ ideas as well. Discussion Topic: What is an example of a composite figure in your home or community? How would you decompose it to find the area? Can you think of another reason that it would be helpful to decompose these figures in addition to making it easier to find the area of the figure? Answer: Kitchen cabinets can be an example of a 3D composite figure.

Imagine the sets of regular kitchen cabinets going around the walls, refrigerators and sinks in your kitchen. They are generally all connected together in one piece.

However, there are also all individual pieces. To find the total volume of the cabinets, you should break them all down into the individual single prisms.

You could also look at it as an area problem on the wall. How much total space are the cabinets taking up.
