Jobs became much harder to find at this time. Most factories moved overseas, because of cheap foreign labor, leaving millions without jobs. During this time air conditioning became very popular, especially in the sun belt, making it a more desirable place to live.

Mainly, the gold rush and warmer climate to their farms. This drove people to settle in the west and south. I hope this helps!!
