If there is two people that know the story its more than likely that the extra person has something to do to with the story. The narrator can change the thoughts and feelings because they are the main character of the story and know how all the characters felt about the situation so they can change how the characters feel. They can tell from different perspectives because of what the situation is. For example, if one person knows more about a subject in the story they would have their perspective first then the other person would continue with there's you can't just do that with 3rd person because that 3rd person bystander doesn't know the full story. Since the actual person that experienced it know the full story they can switch the perspectives to make the story make sense.
