if the dimensions of the square pyramid are in meters, the surface area can be calculated as follows;
Surface area = area of square base + area of lateral faces
= (side length of square )² + (1/2 * slant height* perimeter)
If we substitute the equations with the units of the dimensions
area = (meters)² + (1/2* meters * meters)
= m² + m²
total area = m²
therefore the area is obtained in square meters (m²)
