first simplify all of the numbers with common variables (or those without)

6x - 4x + 1 = 2 + x + 4

2x + 1 = x + 6

subtract x from both sides to move x to one side

2x (-x) + 1 = x (-x) + 6

x + 1 = 6

subtract 1 from both sides to isolate the x

x + 1 (-1) = 6 (-1)

x = 6 - 1

x = 5

5 is your answer for x

hope this helps
