How can you tell when a quadratic equation has no real solutions?

A. when the radicand is negative
B. when b in the quadratic formula is greater than the radicand
C. when the radicand equals zero
D. when the radicand is not a perfect square

I believe the answer is A? is that right?

The answer is that A. when the radicand is negative. Having a negative value inside a radicand sign will indicate that there are no solutions. Because we do not know the square root of a negative value. The result of this is that we cannot evaluate the formula any further.
