the pythagorean thereom is a^2 + b^2 = c^2

Explanation:

to find the length of the hypotenuse use a^2 + b^2 = c^2 or b^2 + a^2 = c^2

but in order to find the length of the legs use c^2 - a^2 = b^2 or

c^2 - b^2 = a^2
