The comparison helps to develope Didion’s feelings about New York, she felt a deep loss when her feelings for the city changed after several years of living there, she get to describes New York as “a city for only the very young”, in the essay she shows how her feeling get transform during the pass of the time, just like into some relationship, when you are so in love and enchanted at the beginning but the magic starts to decrease until is gone, this is what she felt for the city.
