PARALLEL LINES HAVE EQUAL GRADIENTS...MEANING THE GRADIENT OF THE NEW LINE IS ALSO

(5)/(6)

I WILL USE THE GIVEN POINTS RO FIND THE VALUE OF c

6= (5)/(6) ( - 1) + c \\ 6 = - (5)/(6) + c \\ c = 6 + (5)/(6) \\ c = (41)/(6)

The equation now is

y = (5)/(6) x + (41)/(6)

ATTACHED IS THE SOLUTION

Hello!

A line that is parallel to another line:

⇒ has the same slope

Thus the line: has a slope of 5/6

However, the line passes through (-1, 6):

==> let's set up the equation in point-slope form

y - y_1=m(x-x_1)

  • m: slope
  • (x₁, y₁): point on the line

y - 6 = (5)/(6) (x -(-1))\\\\y -6 = (5)/(6) x + (5)/(6) \\\\y = (5)/(6) x +(5)/(6)+6\\\\ y=(5)/(6) x + (5)/(6) +(36)/(6) \\\\y=(5)/(6) x + (41)/(6)<== Answer:

Hope that helps!
