It allowed Hitler to annex a portion of the country.

Germany under Hitler's leadership wanted to annex the Sudetenland in Czechoslovakia which had a majority German people. Germany insisted it was part of their homeland and at the Munich Conference the European powers agreed to let Hitler annex the area. Czechoslovakia was not present at the conference and this act of appeasement would lead to a total annexation of Czechoslovakia.
