Throughout the Odyssey, Odysseus' goal is to return home to his wife and son. However, his pride angered Poseidon. Becuase of this external conflict with Poseidon, he is unable to get the favorable seas he needs to return to Ithaca. His internal conflict of being too prideful to apologize and admit that he needs help from the gods keeps him from reconciling with Poseidon.
