the South; Jim Crow--the South were now officially able to segregate the races and would do do in laws referred to as Jim Crow laws.
Plessy v. Ferguson stated "separate but equal" was a constitutional concept and legally allowed for segregation laws. The South attempted segregation laws during and after Reconstruction but the official legal permission brought sets of laws separating the races. The Jim Crow laws included separate facilities, literacy tests, poll taxes, job discrimination, and many more.
