He set the standard for arts and political thinking.

Pericles used Athens' wealth to create cultural structures such as the Acropolis and then temple to Nike. Pericles also allowed for the growth of the democratic tradition in Athens allowing for the citizens to have more of a voice in the city-state. He also created alliances with neighboring city-states to increase the defenses of Athens.

During the leadership of Pericles, he made the Athens a direct democracy as he appointed certain individuals in government, regardless of their social class but based on their skills and ability. He also rebuilt the Athens by establishing statues, temples, and new monuments.
